For my birthday I received a real foodie gift. A bag full of cooking goodies from China. My friend who is a cabin crew took the opportunity and on her flight to Hong Kong she got all kind of new and interesting ingredients. I was overwhelmed and determined to use every single thing in this bag. The sauces and oils was the easy part, but when it came to the nice stick cinnamon and dried oranges I was rather confused. At first I was thinking to make some dessert, but then the idea to incorporate this into a nice beef stir-fry took over. The result was delicious and interesting, make sure yourself.
Ingredients:
– 500g beef strips
– mix of bell peppers (red, yellow, green)
– 200g mushrooms
– 1 carrot
– 1 small onion
– 2 cloves garlic
– 1 tbs ginger
– 1 tsp sesame oil
– 2 tbs soy sauce
– 1 tbs fish sauce
– 1 stick cinnamon (or 1 tsp ground cinnamon)
– 4-5 slices dried oranges
– 1 tbs honey
– 1 tbs ketchup
– pinch of cayenne pepper
– cooking oil
– parsley for garnishing
– rice for garnishing
Preparation:
Preheat oil in a frying pan. Season the beef strips with some salt end pepper and cook for 3-4 minutes. Add the veggies and the rest of the ingredients. Let it cook until all the flavors incorporate well. Remove the cinnamon stick and serve on top of white rice. Finish the dish with some fresh parsley.
